In Conclusion

My poetry has changed over the years. In the beginning, poetry served only one purpose: to act as a release mechanism, a catharsis, through which my tortured soul could vent its frustration, its anger and resentment, its pain and unfulfilled ambitions. I wrote lyric poetry, and most, if not all of my poems, were written as bound verse. That is, they had a specific meter and rhyme scheme. The fact that these poems were of such personal nature goes to explain why these poems never got published. I was never able to earn so much as a dime from such a creative outlet.

Times have changed. My poems have changed. Many of my new poems are narrative. They reflect my observations. They outwardly express what my inward nature perceives: an ever-changing world that continues, to this day, to fascinate me. I love to travel. It is true: travel does broaden the mind. Now, I write poems that are free verse. They have no meter, and many such poems don't even rhyme. On this website, you will find one poem written as bound verse. Salvation is lyric poetry. Although there is no particular meter associated with this poem, I use the same old ABCB rhyme scheme. The other poem on this website, Broadway, deals with my experience: the moment in time when I was in Time Square, in New York City, back in April of 1984. In this poem, the author merely "observes" the world around him. It's quite an observation.

I hope you enjoy reading each poem. Keep your eyes open for new material that I post on this website. Thank you...James Papastamos
